Local Spotlight: Iron P. Homestead Exotic Petting Zoo

Iron P. Homestead Exotic Petting Zoo

If holding a lemur, riding a camel, or getting chummy with a water buffalo are on your bucket list, you are in luck! Those are exactly the kind of fun, hands-on experiences you will have with a visit to Iron P. Homestead Exotic Petting Zoo in Hogansville.

Dreams Do Come True

After a bustling grand opening hosted by the petting zoo in early August, the rest of the month consisted of appointment-only private tours. Starting in September, Iron P. Homestead Exotic Petting Zoo opened the gates to the public the first weekend of the month. This will continue each first Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

According to an article published in the The LaGrange Daily News, co-owner Brandon Leo referred to this labor of love as a dream come true. He said and his business partners, Cody and Laura Pringle, have always been “rodeo people”. They have worked with a variety of animals, so while opening an exotic petting zoo was a big step, it was a natural fit for all of them.

This big step required almost a year of prep working closely with the USDA and getting the property ready to house the exotic animals, which also includes alpacas and goats in addition to those lemurs, camels, and water buffalo. Leo said it will be a continued work in progress as they bring in more animals and clear more land for pastures providing acreage for the animals to roam.

Plan Your Visit

For events and private tours, the animals are brought to the visitors and housed in pins and enclosures. This gives the guests at the Iron P. Homestead Exotic Petting Zoo the chance to have a more hands-on experience with the animals by holding them, petting them, and giving them lots of attention.

To schedule a private tour, email [email protected] or message them on Facebook. The cost is $20 per person with a minimum requirement of five people and a maximum of 10.

Right now, you can schedule Fall Photo Sessions and capture memorable moments in several fall backdrops set up around the farm. It also includes access to domestic and exotic animals, mini sessions with photographers or personal photography of your choice, and a handler to assist. Send an email to check for availability and to book a session.
