Residents and visitors alike may see the signs of development in certain areas of town. To be specific, two public park upgrades in LaGrange are finally starting to unfold!
The Parks
According to reports, the park renovations will start with a focus on Granger Park and McGregor Park. First of all, the Granger Park renovations will include several playground updates. For instance, it will feature a “tike track,” new equipment and a picnic pavilion.
Next, renovations will begin for McGregor Park, which is a new park with a temporary name. Out of the two public park upgrades in LaGrange, this one is meant to replace the well-loved Union Street Park.
In the past, Union Street Park was assimilated by the Georgia Department of Transportation during the Hamilton Road widening project.
Thus, McGregor Park will be located in the space off Hamilton Road, bordered by Colquitt and Brown streets. Park amenities will include a playground, fitness equipment, green spaces, walking trails and adult-size swings.
Additionally, families will love the designated areas with pavilions and BBQ grills! Plus, community events will rock on the proposed covered outdoor stage.
So, be patient as the construction that has faced delays from supply issues revs up!
More Background
As early as 2019, the city was looking at ways to reinvest in the community. One idea was to regain control of a few parks that have been maintained by the county recreation department for years. Hence, negotiations ensued and now two public park upgrades in LaGrange are in the works!
