In the News: Updates to Granger Park and Playground

updates to Granger Park and Playground

Almost a year after updates to Granger Park and Playground were announced, the renovated park and playground are ready for use!

Granger Park is now open!

With updates to Granger Park and Playground complete, the park re-opened to the public on October 7th.

Park visitors may notice several new features and amenities at the downtown park. A few updates to Granger Park and Playground include a “trike track,” all-new playground equipment and a picnic pavilion.

Local residents will also notice more parking in addition to a special boardwalk and walking trail.

As a matter of fact, the walking trail provides a direct connection to The Thread, the city’s 12-foot-wide multi-purpose trail.

Ready to check out what’s new at Granger Park? Head to 100 Hunnicutt Place in downtown. Since that’s only three miles from Whispering Pines, you can be there after about an eight-minute drive!

More about the updates

The updates to Granger Park and playground were actually part of a two-phase project. In October 2021, the city announced its plans to begin much-anticipated updates to two local parks.

Granger Park was on the agenda as well as McGregor Park, formerly known as Union Street Park. You can read more about the initial project announcement regarding both parks in our previous blog, In the News: Public Park Upgrades in LaGrange.

The public park upgrades were funded through Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds.

Other park amenities

In addition to the upgrades, Granger Park has restrooms, exercise equipment, tennis courts and athletic fields, including both softball and baseball fields.

Granger Park is open from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily. For more information about the park, call (706) 883-1670.
